A selection of auctions to be held in the coming days.

2021 is preparing a new auction sensation. Sotheby’s announced the auction in New York in January of the masterpiece of the Florentine genius of the Early Renaissance Sandro Botticelli “Portrait of a Young Man with a Medallion” (circa 1470-1480). It is expected that the lot will be sold for at least $ 80 million. Specialists of the Department of Old Masters of Sotheby’s have already described the work as “one of the most important portraits in the entire world art history.”

The Courtauld Institute of Art History in London received in its collection a previously unknown diary of Paul Gauguin, which the artist kept in Polynesia. The manuscript, called “Avant et Après” by the great artist, is a cross between a manifesto and a memoir and includes curious and revealing facts about such contemporaries of Gauguin as Cézanne, Degas and Van Gogh. The artist also describes in detail the nine weeks he spent with Vincent Van Gogh in Arles with a story about a quarrel and a friend cutting off his earlobe himself in a fit of rage. The diary will be on display next spring, when the museum reopens after restoration.

Banksy’s Color Balloon Girl Print set an all-time price record for Banks’ print and also became the most expensive circulated artwork ever sold in an online auction. The iconic image displayed at Christie’s London Specialty auction was auctioned off for £ 791,250 ($ 1 million), well above its lofty £ 350,000 ($ 445,600) estimate. The auction was held online and ended on 23 September.
